On Sunday, Johnson responded to the outcry on social media. His late father, the wrestler Rocky Johnson, was of Black Nova Scotian origin, while his mother, Ata Maivia, is Samoan.

As Johnson captioned the video, “I knew my boy @jamesjeffersonj had this Rock wax statue in his roasting crosshairs,” Jefferson is shown mocking the statue in a comedy routine.

He then cited Jefferson as asking, “Is this how y’all felt when you lost the Little Mermaid?” with a smiling emoji attached.

“For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France, so we can work at ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements – starting with my skin colour,” Johnson stated.

It is said on the museum’s website that “after Dwayne Johnson was chosen at the first edition of the Grévin Awards, sculptor Stéphane Barret had to rely on photos and videos to create a statue as close to reality as possible, without the presence of the international star.”

Despite repeated attempts, BBC Newsbeat has yet to receive a response from the Grevin Museum. However, they sent a statement to Deadline saying, “Dwayne Johnson is right, and we noticed and will obviously remedy it as soon as possible.”
